A few months ago, I discussed the “Fat > Muscle” gimmick which is very common in pro wrestling. This is where an athletic, shirtless, well-muscled stud like Jessie Godderz is utterly humiliated and tortured by an obese, unattractive lard-ass.
The effect is to intensify the humiliation of the Alpha Male wrestler, to enhance the appearance of a transfer of power from the gorgeous Adonis to the out-of-shape monster.
I received feedback from a few readers that they love this type of match — the tarnishing of the Perfect Man’s reputation when he is defeated by an ogre. One reader wrote:
“Love seeing muscled face/heroes getting manhandled and trashed by their obese but powerful heels/villains. I remember being ecstatic every time the Rock faced Big Show back in the days. And was absolutely delighted when Lex Barker’s Tarzan almost lost to a fat African chieftain in one of Tarzan films. Then, there is also the ultrahot sleeper of Mauler in DAK wrestling (http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x5s5a5_mauler-puts-out-bryan_sport).”
