Excellent Cole, Part 1 of 2

The future is bright for young Adam Cole, an exciting up-and-comer making a name for himself on the Indy wrestling scene.  He is the popular darling in at least three Indy promotions, can entertain the crowd in multiple styles of pro wrestling, and can play either tortured Baby-Face or arrogant Heel (as he’ll be doing in today’s featured match.)  It also doesn’t hurt that he’s physically appealing.

He teases the fans by entering the ring in a sheer black singlet rather than his usual bare-chested look.  He is mimicking another wrestler named Sami Callahan who wears a singlet.   Through the fabric of the singlet, the fans catch glimpses of his oil-soaked torso and shiny trunks.  Soon he peels off the singlet to show off his tan, well-oiled torso (looking a bit like a classic 80’s jobber in baby-blue trunks.)

Cole’s opponent at the CZW Down With The Sickness event was a hairy bear of a brawler named “Greg Excellent.”  Cole’s body is clearly more fit and proudly exposed in contrast to Excellent’s massive frame covered in black spandex. Cole therefore has more sex appeal — more potency — than his fleshy, covered opponent.  His  power is further indicated when he assumes a dominant role in the match, beating down Greg Excellent.

This match — many pro wrestling matches — are all about demonstrating which man has more virility — more sexual power demonstrated by the relative domination or submission of the opponents.

Adam Cole is frequently seen to be upright (erect) while Greg Excellent lies at his feet.  Adam is active, kicking the other man, while Greg is still and motionless.  Adam strips down and boldly shows off his body.  Greg conceals himself.

Adam’s bulge (his manliness) is evident in his skimpy speedo, while Greg’s manhood is buried under layers of clothing and remains unseen.  Adam presents his crotch toward Greg’s face, thereby placing his opponent in the sexually submissive kneeling position.  So at the start of the match, Adam is symbolically shown to be the dominant, more potent male.

The tide of the match turns during a “Test of Strength” — which is a competition within a pro wrestling match where the wrestlers willingly join hands and try to out-muscle and force down the opponent to determine who is dominant.  One remains erect, while the other sinks and sags, utterly flaccid and defeated.  These are actually Tests of Masculinity, or Tests of Potency, meant to convey to the fans which man holds the sexual energy — one man is forced submissively to his knees while the other stands over him symbolically, his crotch at the victim’s eye level.

In the sexually suggestive Test of Strength, Cole begins in the dominant position, but Greg Excellent is able to rise up (become erect) and over-power him. 

Excellent makes the innuendo more explicit by pulling Cole’s face into his groin as if being serviced by Cole.

The announcers refer to the move as the “Greco-Roman Fellatio Lock” as the fans at ringside chant: “You Suck Dick!” to humiliate Cole.

Suddenly Excellent has co-opted the dominant role from Adam Cole and seized the sexual energy.  Cole is displayed on his knees in the corner — humiliated as he wipes off off his face.

The sexual innuendo, the implied rape of Adam Cole, continues as Excellent grabs and twists his nipples.  This is an unusual wrestling move — an action normally associated with foreplay.

By tweaking Adam’s nipples, Excellent is demonstrating that he now has the potency, the masculine vigor.  He can use and abuse the submissive man however he wishes.

Greg then places Cole in a pinning position, laying on top of him and forcibly pulling up one leg.  This is clearly a provocative position meant to imply forced submission.  Cole is able to kick out and the match continues.
