Fighting Back

dominantAs you’ve perhaps noticed, this website has been shutting down frequently due to “capacity issues” or something.  This was because so many wrestling fans (and so many computer Bots posing as wrestling fans) were visiting my page and downloading my images, I was exceeding my server’s maximum daily download rate.

So I tried blocking the Bots — and ended up blocking my fellow wrestling fans, the very people I am writing this for.  That was no good so I removed all traffic blocks and we REALLY started blowing over the maximum capacity.   I am no techie here — I am at the mercy of all the hackers and spammers out there — so I feel like a rookie jobber with the more experienced Heel’s boot on my throat!

austinAriesI recently tagged in my host server’s Technical Support and they suggested I change my Home Page to show only one posting at a time.  You see, my blog was set up to load all at once, article after article, allowing you to scroll down to see more, eventually scrolling back to 2011 when I started this blog.  This is a waste of bandwidth to load everything at once.

cornerHelplessBootHeelsTo change my Home Page to display only one article at a time required upgrading to the latest version of WordPress software. I should probably be doing this anyway to get the latest security updates.

This was a scary, complex process involving FTP-ing into my server, deleting two folders (yikes!), uploading hundreds of replacement files, and updating my database.

I was certain I’d fuck it up and poof, no more Wrestling Arsenal!

rougeauBut it WORKED!  I am so shocked and so damn proud that I successfully updated WordPress!  It’s like I was finally able to slap the Sleeper Hold on some ugly brute who has been kicking my ass and restore some of my mojo.

So the look of this site may feel different now.  For example, you can no longer scroll down to see older articles — you now have to click the little “Older Posts” arrow at the bottom to see the prior article.  This change might help prevent the “Excess Capacity” finishing maneuver that had us pinned to the mat and suffering for the past several months.

bitchedOutbrodySo I am trying to fight back, like the Little Jobber That Could.  Today I’ve posted images of victims suffering under the oppressive boots of their stronger foes to symbolize the current plight of the Wrestling Arsenal.

I will keep making changes, keep learning new holds and counter-holds to out-smart the evil stable of Bots, until hopefully one day, this website stays available 24/7.  Stay tuned, wrestling fans…

Hey bro, if you’re looking to further reduce costs, you might want to consider Tumblr. It’s free, you can still use your vanity URL, they support long form articles like you tend to do, easier to share content, just like PiledriveU. You can keep your achieves on WordPress. Just a thought.

    Great job, Arsenal …!

I know that taking on new(-er) software can be a huge undertaking but it looks like everything is going smoothly …

I used to love surfing thru the back pages of Arsenal at random and will continue to do so … a few more clicks is no trouble at all in order to be able to log the first page.
Continued Kudos on the blog … RayAtL
