Have you seen this commercial featuring simply a man walking down the beach in his speedo bathing suit? There are no words spoken, just a dude walking while a jazz singer croons in the background: “I gotta be me!”
Usually, the media will portray a stocky, middle-aged man as an object of ridicule. His exposed belly, his too-tight speedo, would be sources of shame and comedy.
This commercial, on the other hand, celebrates the confident, powerful male rather than mocking him. He is an icon of Alpha Male calm confidence. He is unconcerned about the eyes focused on his over-sized body, unapologetic about his weight or hairiness or age.
The man walking on the beach reminds me of a classic pro wrestler — naturally thick and hairy, no-nonsense, confident, perfectly willing to display his big body for your awe and appreciation.
He even wears a clingy speedo in the style of pro wrestling trunks — which proudly reveals, rather than shamefully covers, the very root of his manhood. This recent commercial is a refreshing return to the days when Real Men and masculinity were praised and worshiped rather than mocked and degraded.
The man on the beach knows that sexiness is defined by confidence (not merely by having a smooth, lean body.) Comments posted on the YouTube Video reveal society’s natural appreciation of (and craving for) a thick, proud Alpha Male:
“This dude is my fucking hero.. No amount of fuck was given…”
“Pure sex.”
“Gonna be honest…..I find this guy TOTALLY SEXY! True! 🙂”
“I LOVE this guy & this commercial! His confidence is overwhelming!”
“This commercial is brilliant. I love how the dog just leaves it’s owner to walk with the coolest guy in world. And that little move when he passes the pretty girl. Amazing.”
Here are some more images of manly pro wrestlers who wear their hairy masculinity like a badge of honor, who are most comfortable shirtless in trunks, whose confidence is intoxicating:
