O Captain! My Captain!
In his red, white, and blue spandex body-suit,
Captain America fought for the ideals of the United States, such as freedom,
control of oil, the quest for WMD's, and maybe some occasional torture of
prisoners. Here the Captain goes wild on some shirtless muscle-man.
Wow check out the body on this hunky opponent,
The Punisher, whose long legs and massive physique are barely contained by
his tight suit. I like how he plants one boot on Cap's shield to show
his domination over the "powerless" hero.
For some reason, Captain America often squared
off against the other Super-heroes. Maybe, similar to the USA, he was
a bit cocky and hard to get along with. Here he battles the Wolverine
in a knock-down, drag-out fight to the death.
Maybe Captain America battled the other
heroes, such as Iron Man in issue #58, because when two heroes fought, the
magazines sold like hot-cakes. The caption on this cover even says:
"Why are these two gallant allies battling
each other to the bitter end?? ... Mainly to get you to buy this mag
and see the answer inside! (If we can't always be clever, we can at
least be honest!)"
Here
in Issue #138, Spider-Man has entangled The Falcon, Cap's buddy and Tag Team
partner, in a web. This way, Spidey and the Captain can get it on
without being interrupted. What is it about two heroes turning on
each other and fighting for supremacy that seems to capture the interest
of the excited readers??
Finally in Issue #271 (July 1982), Captain
America climbed in the pro ring against a very ripped stud called Mr. X.
On the cover, we see Cap taking a brutal Drop Kick from the other hunk.
While most Super-heroes
wore suits covering their entire bodies, this stud stripped down to his speedo,
baring his incredible body. I'll bet this got some pulses racing among
the comic book fans who like to see some muscle.
Captain America, meanwhile, is shown
in agony from the opponent's patented Drop-Kick, stunned as those boots slam
into his face. This artist really captures the erotic side of Pro
Wrestling, probably better than any other mainstream comic book artist!
The story begins
with Captain America, out of his costume and relaxing at home with his girl.
He is shocked to learn that she is horny for Pro Wrestling, as she
orders him to shut up and serve her some food so she can keep her eyes glued
to "All-Star Wrestling."
On the wrestling program,
the promoter is praising his young student, Jumpin Jack Flash. Out
of nowhere, Mr. X slaps on a punishing headlock and threatens to murder Jack
Flash in the ring.
The horny chick
still can't peel her eyes off the television as Mr. X begins working over
Jack Flash, a barefoot blond who likes to bounce around the ring like a
fairy.
Mr. X decides to finish off the cute
kid with his deadly Drop Kick variation, the "Flying Four Flusher." He
builds up his momentum by first bouncing off all four ring ropes.
Then
he comes sailing down on the helpless kid's lower back, snapping his spine
and sending his throat into the top rope, which kills the victim instantly.
The murderer runs out the door before they can arrest him. Isn't this
comic book getting a bit intense for young people to read??
Captain America and his horny girlfriend are both angry when
they learn that the handsome jobber has died in the ring. Captain America
will want to make Mr. X suffer for this outrageous murder.
The promoter, King Arthur, agreed that Mr. X can prove his
innocence and avoid criminal charges if he can defeat Captain America in
the ring. Wait a minute, how does this King Arthur dude have the authority
to waive a criminal trial and find a killer innocent?? It has something
to do with honor apparently, which is above the laws and the court system
and even the Constitution I guess.
The fans clap and cheer as Captain America leaps into the ring.
Don't these stupid fans realize that modern nation-states only exist
to serve powerful corporations, and that patriotism is just a ploy to keep
consumers from revolting while buying more products?? Oh well, they
love their country.
Mr. X enters the ring by swinging down on a rope and Drop Kicking
poor Captain America in the face, which is the money shot they posted on
the front cover of the magazine. Mr. X is in the mood to kick some ass
I see.
Captain America has his hands full with this muscular masked
stud! He is surprised at the man's speed, although he is able to flip
Mr. X with a Flying Headscissor. The drunken fans are shocked at Captain
America's wimpiness.
Oh damn, the
sadistic stud decides to kill Captain America with his "Flying Four Flusher"
just like he did to Jumpin' Jack Flash! Look out, Cap, he wants to
destroy you!!!
But the mighty Captain America
easily drives a shoulder into the killer's gut, knocking him to the mat
where he strikes a sexy pose on one elbow. I can't believe this deadly
finishing move was so easy to avoid!!
Next the hero springs over the ropes
and stuns the sexy masked man with a Double-Fisted Gut Punch. This
artist really has some talent for drawing the bodies of wrestlers in action!
Now the winner unmasks the beaten
man and we learn that Mr. X was actually the "Midnight Slasher," apparently
a wanted serial killer. Thank heavens Cap won this match, or this freak
would have been released to kill more people!
We learn that this murderer
hid from the cops by becoming a famous masked wrestler and appearing on television
each week. What a clever place to hide, where his mask could have
slipped off at any moment, exposing his identity. Oh well, thanks to Captain
America, the wrestling ring is safe again!
